Pro Tips for Protecting Your Deposit
Document Everything
Take photos and videos of every room with timestamps visible. Record before AND after cleaning. This is your evidence if disputes arise.
Compare to Move-In
Request your move-in inspection form. Any damage noted there cannot be charged to you. Normal wear and tear is not deductible.
Get Key Receipt
Always get written confirmation when you return keys. The 30-day clock starts when you surrender possession - prove the exact date.
Know Your Rights
Landlords can only deduct for damage beyond normal wear. They cannot charge for repainting unless you caused damage, or for carpet cleaning without cause.
